Healthy Eating Week 31st March – 4th April 2025
Coolmine Community School’s Healthy eating week was held on 31st March – 4th April organised by the Home Economics department, Ms. Najat Tully and Ms. Karen Quinn.
The aim was to spread awareness about the importance of nutritious and healthy eating from a young age and promote the intake of nutrient-rich foods rather than empty calorie foods. There were free samples of nutrient-rich snacks including fruit, Yops and Frubes, brown bread and seaweed crisps at small break and lunchtime for students and staff throughout the week, which were very kindly sponsored by Dole Ireland, McCambridge bread, Yoplait Ireland, and Glenisk Yogurts, Nourish Ireland, Lidl Ireland and Dunnes Stores. There were also fruit smoothies made by some of our Healthy Eating Committee members.

There were also quizzes, poster and recipe-a-day competitions and lots of information displayed about healthy foods/snacks all over the school, which the students were encouraged to actively participate in by putting the displays and posters together. Hopefully healthy eating week provided food for thought for both the students and staff of Coolmine Community School.

Huge thank you to Dole Ireland for their generosity in supplying all the fruits and vegetables. Thanks also to Nourish Ireland for the seaweed crisps and collagen, to Yoplait Ireland for the Yops, Frubes and yogurts, to McCambridge’s for the brown bread, to Glenisk for the protein yogurts, to Lidl Ireland for the vouchers, and to Dunnes Stores for the giftcard.
Big thank you to the students on our Healthy Eating Committee for their hard work and for helping out all week.
