Transition Year helps students:

  • Discover their personal strengths
  • Develop maturity & self-confidence
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Build interpersonal & team skills
  • Make wiser & more informed choices for Leaving Certificate and university
  • Extend learning experience beyond the classroom
  • Catch up in subjects which they find difficult (especially Irish, English and Maths)develop study skills for the Leaving Certificate
  • Explore the working world
  • Achieve improved Leaving Certificate results (students score on average 25 points better)

Transition Year students are expected to do the following:

  • Participate fully in opportunities offered throughout Transition Year
  • Develop work and study habits appropriate to the Senior Cycle
  • Establish positive and respectful relationships with fellow students and with teachers
  • Participate in classwork and complete homework and other assignments on time
  • Observe the rules of the school with regard to conduct, attendance, punctuality and uniform.

Please note: Admission to TYP is not automatic. Students who apply for admission to the programme will be interviewed to determine their suitability.
