Transition Year helps students:
- Discover their personal strengths
- Develop maturity & self-confidence
- Improve self-esteem
- Build interpersonal & team skills
- Make wiser & more informed choices for Leaving Certificate and university
- Extend learning experience beyond the classroom
- Catch up in subjects which they find difficult (especially Irish, English and Maths)develop study skills for the Leaving Certificate
- Explore the working world
- Achieve improved Leaving Certificate results (students score on average 25 points better)
Transition Year students are expected to do the following:
- Participate fully in opportunities offered throughout Transition Year
- Develop work and study habits appropriate to the Senior Cycle
- Establish positive and respectful relationships with fellow students and with teachers
- Participate in classwork and complete homework and other assignments on time
- Observe the rules of the school with regard to conduct, attendance, punctuality and uniform.
Please note: Admission to TYP is not automatic. Students who apply for admission to the programme will be interviewed to determine their suitability.
