The Story of Coolmine’s Urban Forest 2023 – 2024

May 30, 2024

This event happened over two days. Soil preparation occurred on December 5th 2023 and planting on February 6th 2024. The purpose is to show Coolmine’s commitment to increasing biodiversity, sustainability and mitigating climate change.

The first stage of preparation involved laying cardboard on the ground and covering with mulch. The next stage involved planting 400 native Irish trees. Students from Global Citizens, first to sixth year were involved.

Global citizens have had an eventful year. We planted 400 native Irish trees and it has given us a sense of responsibility and respect for the environment. I personally enjoyed the experience and I believe it gives young people a voice on global issues and a connection with the local area and which will last for many years to come.  (Sheena Zhou)

This was a very successful activity. Students worked very hard with a team from Cloud forests. They worked over two days preparing the ground and then planting 18 species of native Irish trees, 400 trees in total. Mr. Kinlon, Miss O’Hora.
