Coolmine Cakes – Recipe Book for Peter Mc Verry Trust
We all keep in our hearts an awareness that our school and community are affected by homelessness.
We wanted to do something to help.
Together we decided to write a cookbook to raise awareness of the Peter McVerry Trust which does vital work to provide services and offer pathways out of homelessness.
All the proceeds made from the sale of this book will go directly to this very worthy cause.
Where the idea for this project all began was from a small I.T. class of 5th year students in 2018.
We gathered some of our favourite and much-loved recipes from the staff in Coolmine and our families.
The students typed them up and chose the layout designs.
We then held a competition to design the front page that was open to all our students. We got some amazing artwork that you will see throughout the book.
A huge thank you to our sponsors for their generous donations which made all this possible: Cunningham’s Funeral Directors, Exam Craft Group and the Coolmine C.S Parents Association, Deirdre Guildea (Past Pupil), Educate.ie, Lennox, WorldWise Global Schools, Eco Energy Ratings Ireland and Kids Cook.
Thanks to the students who were there from the very beginning when this book was just a thought.
Also thank you to the Global Citizenship Committee, led by Sinead Akeke and Vanessa Mut (6th years) who ran a bake sale to raise money for this cookbook. Thanks to Hanaa Janahi, 6th year, who gave us this beautiful cover page and to Neepa Myiesha Khan, 2nd year, and Elliott O’ Neill, 6th year, for their artwork within the book which adds the perfect amount of Coolmine personality!
And a massive Thank You to the Master Bakers on the Coolmine Community School staff who baked every single cake you will see in this book.
Their talent and support never cease to amaze!
A special thank you to a small army working backstage on the project.
Thank you to Mark Condren, Irish Independent Photographer and John Condren, Graphic Designer, for their constant encouragement and determination to get the recipe book over the finish line. Well done to Ms. Valerie Van Veen, Ms. Heather Nolan and to the staff and students of Coolmine Community School.
