Mental Wellbeing – Coolmine Awarded Amber Flag

banner amber flag jan2015Coolmine has been awarded the Amber Flag in recognition of the initiatives undertaken in the school to promote and actively bring about a culture change in the promotion of positive mental health. The ceremony took place in DCU where former rugby player, Alan Quinlan, presented the flag to a number of schools on behalf of Suicide Aware. In order to qualify for an Amber Flag, the school established a project team, the majority of whom were students. The team identified 3 goals/tasks to enhance the existing educational provision and support structures in the area of mental health promotion in the school. The tasks undertaken in Coolmine this year included the following:

It is our hope that students are learning that their Mental Health is just as important as their physical health, and that the school continues to be one that promotes well-being for all through increasing awareness and social support.
