Science Week 2006

Science Week took place from 13th- 17th November 2006 in Coolmine Community
School. To mark the event, a number of science themed activities were organised.
 
On Monday “Chemistry Chaos” took place; this involved exciting explosions, fire frenzy & drinking chocolate bombs!
 
On Wednesday the Junior Cert students took part in a number of Table Quizzes. First Year Winners were Michael O’Connor, Diarmuid Morley & Jonathan Eyanga. Second Year Winners were Shannon Collins, Brendan Walsh & Jamie Sweeney.
 
Also on Wednesday three third years represented Coolmine in the ISTA Eureka Science Table Quiz in Belvedere College. They were Jamie Turner, Amy Fitzpatrick & Amy Doolan.
 
The transition years attended a talk on cancer drug development in the RDS by Dr Annette Byrne on Wednesday entitled “From Molecules to Man”. 
 
On Thursday, the Transition Year Horticulture students held a tree planting ceremony to mark Science Week.
 
Congratulations to the team of sixth years who represented Coolmine in the ISTA Science Quiz in DCU on Thursday 16th November. They came second & will now represent the school at the National Science Quiz Final this Saturday 25th November @2pm in Trinity College. The students involved are Komal Lakho, Eoghan Coady, Amy Shier & Robert Kearns.
 
Other activities included a transition year trip to Teagasc Food Research Centre in Ashtown & a Junior Science poster competition.
