Coolmine’s Star!
Last Wednesday the first, second and third year students of the school had a visit from the music man who is putting the name of Coolmine on the map – Rudi Douglas himself! Rudi entertained the students with the Prince classic, “Purple Rain” and George Michael’s “I can’t make you love me”.
Rudi is successfully breaking into the music industry since graduating from the school two and a half years ago. Currently participating on You’re A Star, (broadcast on RTE 1 on Sunday nights), he is vying for a place in the final live from The Helix.
When asked about the audition, this is what Rudi had to say – “The audition went pretty well, the judges seemed quite impressed”. Judge Linda Martin praised Rudi’s performance by saying that he had made her morning!
Earlier in the year Rudi appeared on another show called the X-factor. Although knocked out of the competition, the experience proved a positive one giving him a taste of fame! When asked how he planned to deal with signing autographs, he shyly answered, “I would love to write messages to everyone but time is limited!” He certainly got practice with signing autographs at Coolmine!
Rudi advises anyone interested in a career in music to have the courage to try it out. He says, “If you never try you’ll never know how good you really are.”
Perhaps, someday we can look forward to hearing Rudi’s graduation song, “Learn to be free” and other original songs, in the charts! So remember to vote for Rudi on Sunday night at 6.30 by texting “STAR E” to 53600 or phone 1513 71 71 05.
No matter what Rudi, you’re our star!
