Coolmine and The Christmas Child Project
Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an American Christian charity that aims to give a Christmas gift to children who would not otherwise get one. They depend entirely upon the generosity of ordinary people. This year presents assembled in Ireland are going to the Ukraine and Belarus. The idea is simple – fill a shoebox with age appropriate gifts that would bring some joy and happiness to a poor child. Many of these children live in dire conditions: hungry, lacking enough clothing, abused and neglected.
This year about 60 to 80 boxes were collected at Coolmine. Our hope is to expand this over the next few years. It is a chance for our students to learn the virtue of generosity and to become aware of the suffering of others.
