First Year Welcome Night 2006
A first year welcome service was held on the 19/10/06 in the school. It was co-ordinated by the R.E department, Meitheal co-ordinator and first year Ceann ti. The theme of the service was “growing together”. The service aimed to mark the transition from primary to post primary education by the whole school community. To prepare for the service a choir was formed in September under the direction of Ms. Maguire and Ms. Fitzpatrick. A memorable performance resulted on the evening.
Each class under the direction of their R.E. teacher made a banner representing their class in symbol and art as well as their own unique personality and talents, which they bring to their class.
The Meitheal prepared a charter of their aims for their school career in Coolmine. The charter clearly outlined their roles and goals. This was read out on the night. Through prayer and words, Fr. Tom reminded us of the immense transition that has taken place for this group, of the uniqueness and talents that lie within this first year group. We were also reminded of how far the students have come since they first arrived in Coolmine.
The service ended with a blessing of the first year students by their meitheal with oil. Oil is a symbol of healing and strength, and the blessing represented the hope and support that the school community will provide to these first year on their journey for the next five to six years. The service was a great success and the R.E. team would like to thank all involved.
