The Book Bank
The idea for The Reading Room began three years ago among The Literacy Committee of Coolmine CS. The target was to promote and nurture a love of reading in our school community.
The room was a collaborative student and teacher effort from the beginning. The Transition Year group of 2018/2019 and 2022/2022 were instrumental in putting the room together. They worked hard to help build the bookshelves, fill the bean bags, organise and stock the shelves. A generous donation from our wonderful Parents’ Association allowed us to buy some new books to add to our collection
A very talented group of second and third-year students volunteered their time and painted beautiful scenes from their favourite books onto the walls. Their meticulous work and attention to detail is to be commended. What we ended up with is a warm, inviting, and comfortable place for all students to come and immerse themselves in the joy of reading.
Then students across all year groups were asked to vote on the permanent name for our reading space.
‘The Book Bank’ was officially opened on the 23rd of September 2022 by Minister Roderic O’Gorman (Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth).
We thank him for joining us to celebrate this addition to our school and for his kind words.
