Coolmine Boys Claim Second All-Ireland Title
Congratulations to the first year boys basketball team who won the All-Ireland basketball final in the University of Limerick on Friday 11th May. The boys had an early start on Friday morning, but this did not deter them, spirits were high on the bus on the way down to the finals in UL. Coolmine faced St. MacCartan’s of Monaghan in the semi-final and won the match comfortably with a score of 25 to 17. There was short lived elation as the final was to be played an hour later. After a quick snack the boys made their way to court three for the warm up. They faced Holy Family Rathcoole in the final, a team they had met in the East Ireland finals and only narrowly defeated. The game was very close, at halftime the teams were tied. In the third quarter Holy Family Rathcoole and Coolmine were matching each other basket for basket but in the final quarter of the game Coolmine stretched their lead thanks to some spectacular baskets by team captain Luis Gomez and Centre Leonard Dobos. The final score was Coolmine 36, Holy Family Rathcoole 30. Mr. O’Reilly (Team Coach) would like to thank parents of players for their commitment to getting players to games and to those parents who travelled to games to support the team.
