U19 Boys Basketball Victory

May 16, 2011

Coolmine history was made at the National Basketball Arena on the 22nd March 2011.  The Under 19 boys became All-Ireland league champions after a hard fought 59 – 31 match against CBS Thurles.

In the All-Ireland final, Coolmine again played a team who had beaten them earlier in the competition.

The Coolmine boys very quickly set about putting that right.  By the end of the first quarter, Coolmine led 15 – 4. The second quarter saw a Thurles revival, which left Coolmine leading 23 – 18 at half time. Thurles reduced this to a two point gap, but thanks to a number of three pointers, Coolmine surged back. A basket right on the quarter buzzer left Coolmine sitting pretty at 39 – 23. The last quarter saw Coolmine increase their lead and allowed Ms. Darcy, the coach to make full use of the squad. At the final buzzer, Coolmine were victorious 59 to 31.

This was a great display by the whole team. Great credit is due to Ms. D’Arcy for all the work she has done with this team.
