February 7, 2008
The Hamilton Institute was set up to honour William Rowan Hamilton, Ireland’s most famous scientist on the bicentennial of his birth. It seeks to foster mathematics and related disciplines. It also aims to improve the public understanding of mathematics.
As part of this process The Hamilton Institute runs an annual 10 week online mathematics competition aimed second level students. This year a fifth year student, Sean Murray was the Coolmine School prize winner. He won an Apple iTouch.
